Sustainability at Christmas

By December 5, 2022Articles

The team and community of Coast Chiropractic has been generously working towards our charity drive for the community of Dalby. There is a lot to be grateful for with what we have this Christmas and I’ve got some ideas of how we can be sustainable while still enjoying abundance.

GIFT GIVING

There’s something beautiful about a handmade, or well thought out gift. Sometimes we like to give as the ‘right thing to do’ but this can lead to buying unnecessary items that end up in a cupboard somewhere (we all do it!). Knowing a persons love language can guide the ‘gift’ giving process and can be a thoughtful alternative. Some ideas can include a handmade sauce or preserve, a ‘voucher’ for an act of service or some quality time, or a card that tells someone how special they are.

GET CREATIVE GIFT WRAPPING

This is the time to get creative. Christmas time creates a lot of wastage in wrapping paper and plastics, what if we changed the way we presented our presents? I like to collect ribbon throughout the year and tie gifts up with a beautiful bow, other options could be in a scrap of fabric with a nice pattern or some recycled paper. Keep empty boxes throughout the year and reuse them for gifting. You can decorate them with fresh or dried flowers or dried citrus wheels to add a homemade touch.

FOOD

It’s probably the thing that we overindulge in the most at this jolly time of year. Food wastage is something that is very easily avoided and saves you from eating the Christmas leftovers for the next week. Pick a few staple items and do them well. Its great to get fresh produce from the markets supporting the local growers. If everyone brings a plate and communicates who is on each duty you don’t end up with 6 plates of Christmas pudding. But if there are some extras, consider helping those less fortunate this Christmas.

We want to say a huge thank you to our CCK community, this year has had many special times. We have said hello to many new members and had the pleasure of serving this incredible extended family of ours. We appreciate all the love that we receive from you all and we hope that you have a safe, relaxing, fun filled Christmas and new year, bringing with it prosperity and curiosity and of course, abundance in health.

From our family, to yours,

Merry Christmas!
